The magic of operetta

Jonas Kaufmann’s new album "Magische Töne" released

On his new album *Magische Töne*, tenor Jonas Kaufmann celebrates the world of operetta. Accompanied by the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra, conducted by Dirk Kaftan, he brings to life a variety of works from our catalogue.

The focus is on highlights from composers of the “Silver Age of Operetta”, particularly well-known arias by Emmerich Kálmán and Franz Lehár.

Right at the start, “Komm, Zigany” and “Komm mit nach Varasdin” take us on a nostalgic journey to the fantasy Hungary of COUNTESS MARIZA – as does THE GYPSY PRINCESS, likely Kálmán’s best-known operetta. The latter hails with “Tanzen möcht’ ich”. And with an aria from EMPRESS JOSEPHINE, the album also includes a genuine Kálmán rarity.

Of course, no operetta album would be complete without Franz Lehár. Alongside “Immer nur lächeln” from THE LAND OF SMILES, the album features evergreens such as “Es steht ein Soldat am Wolgastrand” from THE TSAREVICH and “Schön wie die blaue Sommernacht” from GIUDITTA.
